THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The SSLC examination will conclude today. Farewell to the exam period that was a testing time for students. As many as nine lakh students in Class X and XII took the exam despite the challenges posed by the second wave of Covid.
In the midst of numerous restrictions, the Department of Education decided to go ahead with the exams when the need to postpone the exams remained strong. Even after the examination began on April 8, as the number of patients increased exponentially, there was an outcry to change the remaining examinations. Concerns about whether students would become infected en masse also persisted until the end.
More than 300 Covid positive students from across the state appeared for the exam. The examination was held in a special hall for them. It was alleged that if the examination had been held in March itself, not so many patients would have appeared for the examination. The exams were initially scheduled to be held on March 17. The timetable was also published. It was postponed to April at the request of the teachers' unions affiliated with the ruling party.
The anxiety of studying online and the fear of Covid were there for the students and parents alike. Concerns were also raised about the safety of teachers. Although the SSLC valuation is scheduled to take place on May 14, the final decision will be taken by the education department within a week. The Plus Two exam was completed on the 26th. A total of 8,68,697 students appeared for the exam in Classes X and XII.
