ROME: A 23-year-old woman was admitted to a hospital in Italy's Tuscany after she was administered six doses of the Pfizer BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine. She has been discharged from the hospital where she was being monitored for any adverse reaction.
Noa hospital spokesperson said the woman was administered the Covid-19 vaccine at the hospital on Sunday. The health worker accidentally filled a syringe with an entire bottle of the vaccine and administered it to the woman. The bottle had six doses.
The health worker realised her mistake after she saw five empty syringes. The patient was in good health and was kept in the hospital under strict observation for 24 hours. She was discharged on Monday.
The spokesperson said the doctors will continue to monitor the patient's immune response to the "massive dose of vaccine". The woman is an intern at the hospital's psychology department.
While an investigation has been initiated, the hospital spokesperson said it was "maybe just human error, definitively not on purpose."
