KOCHI: One more person has been arrested in the Karipur gold smuggling case. The Customs department has recorded the arrest of Panoor native Ajmal after nine hours of questioning. According to Customs, it was Ajmal who handed over the SIM cards to Muhammad Shafi and Arjun Ayanki. Muhammad Shafi, the accused in the TP murder case, and their friend Aashiq were released after questioning. If necessary, Muhammad Shafi will be summoned for further questioning.

Ajmal is the son of Panoor native Sakina. The probe team had found that Arjun Ayanki and his accomplices used four SIM cards in Sakina's name. Sakina was questioned by the customs team yesterday. The Customs had informed the court that the group comprising Kodi Suni and Shafi were the patrons of the Kannur gold smuggling gang. According to Customs, Shafi, who is currently on parole, helped Arjun Ayanki to go into hiding.
