THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The complete weekend lockdown in Kerala has been extended to this week. The decision to extend the weekend lockdown was taken due to the surge in daily Covid cases. There were reports that the government was considering to lift the weekend lockdown following growing protests.
As Covid cases are on the rise in Kerala, most of the local bodies are under strict control. Thiruvananthapuram Corporation is in B Category. Among the municipalities, Varkala and Nedumangad are in the D category. More than ten panchayats in Thiruvananthapuram are in D category. In Kollam, TPR in 17 grama panchayats is above 15%. There is triple lockdown presently in 28 local bodies in Kochi. In Alappuzha, the TPR is still high except in seven panchayats.
The Union Ministry of Health informed that 40 % of the total cases in the country are from Kerala and the state is concerned of a renewed wave of Covid. The central government is sending a six-member team from the National Centre for Disease Control to the state, tweeted Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. Mandaviya said this team would work with health workers in the state to control Covid.
