Avoid lockdown and night curfew, bring life back to normal: Experts tell CM Vijayan

new-normal

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a meeting convened by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, international experts said that there is no need to worry about the daily spread of Covid disease in the state and that the life of the people can be brought back to normal by avoiding the Sunday lockdown and night curfew and opening schools.

Kerala, which had been leading the fight against Covid transmission, did not fall short in the second wave. The current prevalence of the disease does not matter. Kerala has succeeded in reducing the incidence of disease and mortality.

The three-hour meeting, which was attended by experts from different countries and heads of all medical colleges in the state, examined all areas of Covid outbreak and prevention. Foreigners participated online. This is the first time in the country that such a comprehensive meeting on Covid has been convened.

The current outbreak will continue for a maximum of two months. Later, the virus will continue to cause fever for a few more years.

Newer variants of the Covid that surpasses vax protection has led to an increase in the spread of the disease. But the vaccine can reduce the severity of the disease and the mortality rate. Children between the ages of five and fifteen have a lower risk of transmission. Experts also observed that Kerala will be safer with the completion of vaccination of the elderly.

Dr. Bharat Pankania of the United Kingdom, Dr. David Peters of the University of Hopkins in the United States, Dr. Devi Dreedhar, Dr. Ajay Mahal from Melbourne, Dr. Sangsupra, ADB Specialist, Dr. David Wilson of the World Bank, and Dr. R. R. Gangakhedkar, Dr. Anurag Agarwal from CSIR, Dr. Jacob John and Murali Tummarukudy were present. Dr. B. Iqbal moderated the discussion.
