NEW DELHI: A youth accused of spying for Pakistan has been arrested in Pathankot, Punjab. Police arrested Baljit Singh, also known as Bittu, a native of Chack Dhariwal, for allegedly sharing sensitive information related to military and paramilitary movements with Pakistan.

Police said the accused had installed a CCTV camera at a shop near a bridge on the Pathankot-Jammu stretch of National Highway 44 to monitor army movements. The live feed from the camera was allegedly shared with people in Pakistan and other foreign locations.

During questioning, Baljit Singh admitted that he had installed an internet-enabled CCTV camera at a shop near Sujanpur on the highway. He told police that he had been receiving instructions from an unidentified person based in Dubai and was paid Rs 40,000 for setting up the camera.

Police recovered a CCTV camera and an internet WiFi router from the accused. The operation was launched after authorities received intelligence inputs about suspicious activities along the Pathankot-Jammu National Highway. Apart from Baljit Singh, police have also arrested three others in connection with the case. They have been identified as Vikramjit Singh also known as VIcky, Balwinder Singh and Taranpreet Singh alias Tanu.

Police stated that the arrested individuals were involved in criminal anti-national activities. Investigators are now intensifying efforts to uncover the group’s cross-border links and trace the source of the funding.
