Why air ambulance wasn't used to transport heart? Health Minister replies to query

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health Minister Veena George replied to the question of why air ambulance was not used to transport the heart of Nevis (25), who died at the Ernakulam Rajagiri Hospital, to the Kozhikode Metro International Hospital. The heart had to reach within four to six hours (cold ischemia time). Air ambulances are usually used only for journeys of more than four hours," she said on Facebook.

If the travel is by air, you can only go from Ernakulam Rajagiri Hospital to Nedumbassery Airport and then from Karipur Airport to Kozhikode Metro International Hospital. There is a possibility of wasting some time at airports. It was estimated that the journey from Ernakulam to Kozhikode by ambulance would take about three hours. After informing the government about this, the government had prepared the green channel arrangement accordingly. The arrangements for the surgery were made at the hospital accordingly, Veena George said.
