THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A sub inspector snatched the smartphone of a youth who died in a train accident. During the inquest, he hid the phone in his pocket without including it in the mahassar. The stolen phone was kept secret and days later the officer used his official SIM card in it. The probe reached the SI after the relatives lodged a complaint that the death is suspicious and the phone is missing. Jyothi Sudhakar, now Chathannoor SI, was suspended after it was found that he was using it as an official phone and the phone was seized. Thiruvananthapuram Range DIG Sanjay Kumar Gurudin said further investigations would be carried out against the SI.

The incident is as follows

Arun Jerry, a resident of Perumathura, was hit by a train near Kaniyapuram station on June 18 while Jyothi Sudhakar was an SI at the Mangalapuram station in Thiruvananthapuram. Police found that it was a suicide. When the relatives came to examine the body, Arun's mobile phone was not found. The police replied that the phone got under the train and went missing. A complaint was then lodged with the DGP and the cyber police.

Arun Jerry's inquest was led by Jyothi Sudhakar. Jyohti Sudhakar, who reached Mangalapuram on a part-time transfer, was later transferred to Chathannur.
