Heavy rain in state; two children killed in house collapse in Karipur

MALAPPURAM: Two children were killed after a house collapsed in heavy rain. The incident happened at Mathamkulam in Karipur. Muhammed Kutty is the owner of the house. The dead has been identified as eight-year-old Liyana Fathima and seven-month old baby Lubana Fathima, grandchildren of Kutty.

The two were Kutty’s daughter Sumayya and Abu’s children. The house collapsed Tuesday morning at 5 am. Although the two seriously injured were taken to the hospital, their lives could not be saved. Rains are still lashing the district.

There is heavy rain in Palakkad also. Transportation has been disrupted after trees and stones fell on the Attappadi pass. A tree fell on the road at Nelliyampathi pass. Houses are also submerged in water.

The Met Office has forecast heavy rains till Friday. Orange alert has been sounded in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki districts today. Yellow alert has been declared in Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.
