Why petrol and diesel are not included within ambit of GST? HC seeks explanation from GST Council

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Monday sought an explanation as to why petrol and diesel were not included within the ambit of the GST. The court directed the Centre and the GST Council to explain this while considering a petition filed by Kerala Pradesh Gandhi Darshanavedhi. The Bench led by Chief Justice S Manikumar directed the Council to submit an explanation in this regard within 10 days.

However, several states, including Kerala, have opposed this as they felt that the inclusion of petroleum products within the ambit of GST would reduce the revenue received by the states.
