Minister has no authority to recommend to Governor: Kanam Rajendran

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran on Thursday said that it was not appropriate for the Higher Education Minister Dr R Bindu to recommend to the governor that Dr Gopinath Raveendran be reappointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Kannur University.

"I don't think that the minister has the authority to make such a recommendation. Maybe, that's because of my lack of knowledge," Kanam said during a press conference.

"The reappointment of the VC was upheld by the High Court. As the High Court has made it clear that the appointment is in accordance with the UGC conditions, there is no possibility of further discussion. The PG doctors' strike should be discussed and resolved." he added.
