Suicide of POCSO case victim; police fails to follow norms on receiving complaint, human rights commission seeks report

suicide

MALAPPURAM: The human rights commission sought a report from the district collectors of Malappuram and Kozhikode on the suicide of a POCSO case victim. The girl who was living in Thenhipalam in Malappuram earlier had later shifted to Ramanattukara in Kozhikode. Taking this into account, a report was sought from the collectors of both districts.

The child rights commission had registered a suo moto case on the matter yesterday. The commission has also asked the district collectors of Malappuram and Kozhikode to submit reports. It is assessed that the police failed to give proper consideration to the victim when the complaint was lodged.

The girl was found hanging in a rented house. She was sexually abused by six including her relatives, who were later arrested. The family members accused the police of failing to take proper act.

‘Even after repeated requests, the police did not shift my daughter to a safe place. No one was there to help us even after filing a written complaint’, said the girl’s mother.
