Beef and parotta was not served, son fired to save life, says mother of accused

THODUPUZHA: Lissy Martin, mother of Philip Martin, said that her son was forced to shoot after thrashed by the mob present in the thattukada. She said she suspect that those shot at were in the attackers’ gang. He fired to save his life. She told media that her son was forced to bring a gun after beaten by the people.


Lissy said the incident of so many people coming to attack is suspicious and should check the CCTV visuals to find out what happened in the thattukada. Jiju, a relative, said the problems started after beef and parotta was not served to Philip when he demanded it and instead was given to another person.

Philip went to the thattukada along with Jiju. The incident happened on Saturday in front of the Moolamattom High School. When he created a commotion over food, those in the shop thrashed him. He went home, returned with a country gun and shot at the people. Sanal Babu (34) died in the midst of this. His friend also sustained injuries.
