NEW DELHI: In the dispute between Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgan and Kannada star Kiccha Sudeep, over the national language, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj S Bommai has now come out in support of the latter. "Our states were formed because of languages. Regional languages have been given importance. Sudeep's statement is right and everyone should respect that", Bommai said.

Actor Kiccha Sudeep had earlier said in an interview that “Hindi is no more a national language”. This had triggered Ajay Devgan who then tweeted, “Kiccha Sudeep, my brother, according to you, if Hindi is not our national language then why do you release your native language films by dubbing them in Hindi? Hindi was, is and always will be our mother tongue and national language. Jan Gan Man."

Following the incident, former Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and the current opposition leader Siddaramaiah has also come out against Ajay Devgan. “Hindi was never & will never be our National Language. It is the duty of every Indian to respect linguistic diversity of our Country. Each language has its own rich history for its people to be proud of. I am proud to be a Kannadiga”, Siddaramaiah tweeted.

Sudeep’s controversial remarks came amid the recent release of South Indian films like KGF 2 and RRR, which broke the box office records of Bollywood movies.
