33 kgs of stale meat seized in two days, action against 46 shops; inspections will continue, says Minister Veena George

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister Veena George has said that food security raids will continue in the state as part of the 'nalla bhakshanam nadinte avakasham' (good food is the right of the state) campaign. The Food Safety Department conducted 484 inspections yesterday and today. Action was taken against 46 shops which were not licensed or registered. Notices were issued to 186 institutions. 33 kg of stale meat was seized and destroyed. 19 samples were sent for testing.

In the last 12 days, 2857 inspections were carried out across the state. Action was taken against 263 shops which were not licensed or registered. Notices were issued to 962 institutions. 367 kilograms of stale meat was seized and destroyed. 212 samples were sent for testing.

Special inspection at juice shops has been tightened. A total of 419 juice shops were inspected. 6 samples were collected for testing. Notices were issued to 55 shops. 378 unusable milk packets and 43 kg of fruits were seized and destroyed.

As part of Operation Matsya, 6565 kilograms of stale and chemically contaminated fish have been destroyed so far. Out of 4372 tests during this period, 2354 samples were collected and sent for testing. Notices were issued to 93 people. As part of Operation Jaggery, which was launched to find adulteration in jaggery, 595 establishments were inspected. 147 samples were collected. The minister also said that notices have been issued to 5 institutions.
