KOCHI: Actor Dileep's friend Sarath has been arrested in the actress attack case. This is the first arrest since the re-investigation was launched. The investigation team had earlier found that the VIP mentioned in the case was Sarath. It was after this that Sarath was arrested. Sarath has now been arrested for destroying evidence in the case. The crime branch investigation had revealed that the footage of the attack on the actress was brought to Dileep's house by Sarath, who was referred to as a 'VIP friend'.

The court had asked the prosecution while considering the plea to cancel Dileep's bail last Thursday on whether there is any new evidence against Dileep in the actress attack case. The prosecution had filed a petition in the trial court seeking cancellation of Dileep's bail on charges of trying to influence witnesses and endangering the investigating officers.

While considering the petition, the court asked what evidence the prosecution have proving that Dileep was directly involved. The court asked not to make accusations based solely on assumptions. The court further added that it needs evidence and not public opinion.

Meanwhile, the court raised strong criticism against the public prosecutor for allegedly leaking court documents. The court said that no attempt should be made to keep the court in the smoke and that the public prosecutor should remember that the police are not prosecutors.
