MATHURA: The civil court, which had rejected a petition seeking the removal of Mathura Shahi Idgah Masjid, received a setback on Thursday.
The Mathura district court said that the petition seeking removal of the masjid on the ground that it was built over Krishna Janmabhoomi land was admissible. The district court ruled that the lower court was bound to hear the arguments on the petition.

On September 30, 2020, the civil court had rejected the petition filed by the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Trust seeking permission to demolish the masjid. The court dismissed the petition, stating that the case could not stand under the Places of Worship Act of 1991. The court also stated that if the case was considered, many people will approach the court with similar demands. Following this, the petitioners decided to approach the district court.
