Hyderabad gang-rape: Fake encounter, recommends murder charges against 10 cops

sc

NEW DELHI: A probe panel appointed by the Supreme Court stated that the encounter, which killed the accused of Hyderabad gang-rape, was fake. The accused were shot dead by the police on December 6, 2019. According to the panel’s report, the encounter was staged. The panel has also recommended murder charges against 10 policemen over the incident.

In 2019, four among the accused had gang-raped and killed a 27-year-old veterinary doctor. Following which, they burnt her body. As the incident turned controversial, four of them were arrested by the police.

However, the police had later informed that the accused were killed in an encounter. They said that the encounter took place when the accused tried to escape by snatching the pistol, on the way to the court.

However, a plea was filed against this and the court appointed a panel to investigate into the matter. The probe panel has found that the encounter was staged and three of the accused were minors. The panel has submitted its report before the chief justice.
