11 passengers, including children, suffer from food poisoning after eating food bought from Mangalore station

THRISSUR: Eleven people, including nine children, suffered from food poisoning after eating food bought from the Mangalore railway station. Thiruvananthapuram Ayilam natives Shradha (13), Abhinav (11), Avanthika (9), Nivedhya (4). Diya (5), Neelambari (9), Advaith (15), Brahmadath (13), Diya's mother Sreekutty (29), Niranjana (4) and Suprabha (55) suffered from vomiting and dizziness soon after eating the food. They were returning after attending a dance program in Mookambika.

Five sought treatment in Thrissur and two in Ernakulam. Everyone's condition is stable. Although others were unwell, they were not hospitalized. Everyone left the hospital. Railways have launched an investigation into the incident. The incident took place on Monday night while travelling on the Maveli Express.

The 74-member group of children and parents from the Venjaramoodu Sreekailas Dance Academy in Thiruvananthapuram arrived at Mangalore station at 4 pm. By around 7 30pm, they ate vegetable biriyani, dosa, parotta and vegetable curry bought from the Food Track restaurant on the platform. The passengers started vomiting and experienced dizziness after the train passed Shornur at night. Following this, TTE informed the Thrissur railway station.

When the train reached Thrissur at one o'clock at the night, the Railway Police and the RPF rushed them to the hospital. At this time Sreekutty became unconscious. Diya, Avanthika, Nivedhya and Niranjana were also shifted to Thrissur General Hospital.

The elders of the group also got down in Thrissur to take care of them. Although the rest continued their journey, Shradha and Neelambari experienced dizziness when they reached Ernakulam. Following this, they were admitted to a government hospital in Ernakulam.

Those who underwent treatment continued their journey on the Amritsar Kochuveli Express yesterday morning. The railway team collected their health information when they reached Thiruvananthapuram. At the same time, Palakkad Railway Division Food Safety Officer inspected the Food Track restaurant in Mangalore.
