KOLKATA: The police have registered a case of unnatural death on the demise of famous Bollywood singer Krishnakumar Kunnath alias K K. An inquest and post mortem will be conducted after getting the permission of his family. Reports said all arrangements are being made for the post mortem at SSKM Hospital in Kolkata.
KK who returned after the music programme held at Nazrul Manch auditorium in South Kolkata, collapsed at the Grand Hotel. Although he was taken to Calcutta Medical Research Institute (CMRI), his life could not be saved. Initial reports said that he died of cardiac arrest. He had posted some pictures of his last programme in Instagram ten hours ago.
National media quoting police said that some injured marks were seen on his face and head. The police will record the statements of the event organizers in Kolkata and hotel staffs today.
Tributes are pouring in from across the world. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, cricketer Virender Sehwas and many others paid condolences to him on social media.
KK has been active in playback singing for over a quarter of a century. Though born in Delhi, Malayalee KK has sung over 700 songs in various languages. He has sung many hit songs in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Bengali and Kannada.
He won the Star Screen Award for his solo screen album 'Pal' in 1999. This album had created waves amongst the youngsters then. He was nominated for several awards including the Filmfare Award South and 2012 Eenam Swaralaya Award. He leaves behind his wife Jyothi Krishna and children Kunnath Nakul and Kunnath Thamara.
