THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rain alerts have been issued in the state on Monday. Orange alert has been declared in six districts namely Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kasaragod and Kannur. Heavy rains are likely to lash these districts. Yellow alert has been issued in all other districts in Kerala. Orange alert has also been declared in nine districts on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Rains are likely to intensify in northern Kerala on Monday. The current increase in rainfall in the state is due to the cyclonic vortex over Jharkhand and the strengthening monsoon winds that are moving towards the south. Orange alerts have been issued in the districts of Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts on Tuesday as well. In addition, orange alert has been issued in the districts of Alappuzha, Kottayam and Ernakulam on Wednesday too.
Rain damages have also been reported in various places in the state. An estate labourer was killed in a landslide in Elapara. The dead has been identified as Pushpa, an employee of Kozhikanam Estate. According to reports, rains are likely to lash the state in coming days as well.
