KOCHI: Aluva Edathala native Islu Ibrahim's collection of cars may look like a pile of toys, but all of them can move at a speed of more than 100 kmph. Islu, an RC Champion, had bought all these remote-controlled (RC) small cars out of passion for car-racing. He also owns a mobile shop in Aluva.
The cars are of 20 – 50 cm in length and each one costs around Rs 1.5 lakh. In his collection, there are more than 40 cars that run on petrol, nitrogen and battery engines.
Islu purchased his first car while owning a mobile shop in Saudi Arabia. He returned to Kerala in 2018. The cars are bought from the Gulf or the US via online. These are acquired from the prize money won from the championships held in Kerala and outside coupled with the income from the mobile shop. So far, he has sold more than 20 old cars.
Being a remote-control mechanic, Islu himself does all the repair works. He is also a member of a small car owners’ association called ‘RC Car Kerala’. Afiya Ali is his wife and has two children, Lukman and Mariam.
