Releases 1 lakh liters of water per second, third shutter of Idukki dam opened, no change in water level, Banasura Sagar dam will be opened tomorrow

IDUKKI: The shutters of Idukki Dam has been opened as there is no change in current water inflow. Three shutters were opened today. Through this, one lakh litres of water is released per second. Excess water released from Idukki Dam has already reached Cheruthoni dam.

Although the shutters of the dam have been opened, the officials said that the people living on the banks of Periyar need not worry. A precautionary notice has been issued to 79 families. 23 places have been identified to set up camps.

The officials informed that Banasura Sagar Dam in Wayanad will be opened tomorrow morning. The current decision is to open a shutter of the dam by 10 cm at 8 am tomorrow. 8.50 cubic meters of water per second will flow out through this shutter. Officials said more shutters would be opened if necessary. An outflow of up to 35 cubic metres of water per second is permitted. The current water level in the dam is 773.70 metres. As rain continues in the catchment area, the water level is expected to reach the upper rule level of 774 metres by night.
