NEW DELHI: A first dog from Indian breed has been inducted into the Special Protection Group (SPG) squad providing security to Prime Minster Narendra Modi. Mudhol Hound from Karnataka has been selected for Modi’s security.

Two-month old Mudhol hound puppies were selected from Canine Research and Information Centre in Timmapur in April. They were selected by a team including doctors. They are being trained now.

The Mudhol hounds were selected after considering the Rajapalayam dog breed from Tamil Nadu and Rampur greyhound from Uttar Pradesh.

The dogs were lean and tall structured with tiny heads. The Mudhol hound can grow up to 72 centimetres and weigh between 20-22 kilograms. The Mudhol hound has the ability to run long distances without getting tired and have a special sniffing capacity.
