NEW DELHI: The central government has directed the states to monitor Popular Front of India (PFI) activists and supporters and seal the offices of banned organizations. There is also a proposal to freeze the accounts of the organization. Following the central directive, in a meeting led by the State Intelligence ADGP this morning, the district police chiefs were directed to monitor those who worked in PFI and affiliate organizations. The district police chiefs have also been instructed to take measures to prevent any kind of conflict while sealing offices.
Meanwhile, there is tension in Delhi's Shaheen Bagh following the ban on PFI. Prohibitory orders are in place in Delhi in view of the tension. Following the PFI ban, SDPI responded the move is part of an undeclared emergency. The party added that the ban was a setback to democracy and civil rights and that the government is suppressing freedom of association. Meanwhile, reports are also coming out that there is a move to ban SDPI as well. As SDPI is a political party, the central government has reportedly sought a stance from the Election Commission.
