ALAPPUZHA: CPI(M) State Secretary, MV Govindan, has made the party’s stance against the Governor. He was responding to the Governor’s demand that nine Vice Chancellors tend their resignations to him tomorrow.

MV Govindan said that the RSS is using the Governor for backdoor maneuvers and added that the people will resist the RSS agenda. He also accused the Governor’s actions will jeopardize the education system in the state.

The Governor had demanded the resignation of the nine VCs citing the Supreme Court’s directive canceling the appointment of VC to the Technological University after irregularities were found in the appointment. According to the Governor’s unexpected order, the Vice Chancellors of Kerala University, Kannur University, MG University, Cusat, Fisheries University, Technological University, Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Calicut University, and the Malayalam University must tend their resignation by tomorrow 11.30 am.

It is believed that out of the nine VCs, five of them were appointed without following the UGC norms. The government, on the other hand, is planning to move legally against the Governor. It will approach the court against the Governor’s ultimatum.

Meanwhile, the Cusat Vice Chancellor did not respond to the Governor’s order, while the Vice Chancellor of Kannur University said that he will not put in his papers.

The CPI(M) in a public statement said that the Governor has broken all the limits of democracy. The CPI(M) Secretariat demanded a massive protest against the Governor.

In the CPI(M)’s statement, it says that the Vice Chancellors were appointed according to the state laws. The work of the Vice Chancellors has ensured a new thrust in higher education. This is evident by the grades given by NAAC to various universities in the state. The state government has appointed three education commissions to life higher education in the state to global standards. Removing the Vice Chancellors at this stage is a move to destroy higher education in the state. This follows the Central Government’s agenda to stall the progress of the development projects of the state.

The statement added that the RSS is trying to saffronize the higher education sector in the country. The Governor’s move brings out the RSS agenda to destroy Kerala’s resistance against this. The Governor humiliated secular Kerala by going and visiting the RSS Chief and proving that he is the puppet of the RSS. These moves will be resisted and destroyed by the people of Kerala, said the statement.
