Prisoners clash in Kannur Central Prison, two injured

KANNUR: Two were injured after prisoners housed under the KAAPA Act clashed in a high-security block in Kannur Central Prison. The clash took place yesterday in the 10th block of the prison. Shafiq, hailing from Manakulangara in Thrissur and Sajesh alias Oothappan from Padiyath in Angamali are the injured. It is reported that a dispute over a haircut led to the fight. More wardens reached the spot and calmed down the scene.

Recently, ganja was seized by the prison officials from the Kannur Prison during an inspection. Ganja was brought to the prison on the pretext of vegetables for the kitchen. Action was taken against the superintendent for not reporting the incident to the jail headquarters. Following the incident, the security of the prison was increased and surveillance was intensified.

The authorities are taking the fight between the prisoners very seriously. An investigation has been launched into the incident.
