LIMA: A plane caught fire on the runway during take-off. A LATAM Airlines flight LA 2213, which was departing from the Jorge Chavez International Airport in Lima, the capital of Peru, caught fire on Friday. The officials informed that two firefighters died in the accident. Passengers and flight crew are safe, said the officials.
Regarding the incident in Lima, LATAM Airlines Peru regrets the passing of 2 firefighters who were in the vehicle that collided with the plane, as reported by Lima Airport Partners, the operator of Jorge Chavez Airport.

The plane caught fire as it hit a firetruck on the runway which was coming in the opposite direction. After colliding with the fire engine, the plane is seen catching fire and releasing thick black smoke.
After the accident, the health department of Peru informed that 61 passengers on the plane were transferred to a nearby hospital. Two of them are in serious condition. Peruvian President Petro Castillo expressed condolences to the families of firefighters Angel Torres and Nicolas Santa Gadea who died in the accident.
