'Plan to reduce fatalities by 50 percent by 2024': Govt to replace road rails with crash barriers, says Nitin Gadkari

NEW DELHI: The Transport Department has issued a notification to replace road rails with crash barriers on the roads of the country. Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said that this is to avoid deaths due to road accidents. He also presented the figures of road accidents till August 2022.

About five lakh road accidents occur in India every year. Out of this about one and a half lakh people die. Nitin Gadkari said that the aim of the project is to halve the number of people who die in road accidents by 2024. He added that black spots on the highways will be identified and removed and the 25,000 crore project is in progress.
