Drug mafia must be curbed

drugs

The announcement of Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, that the drug mafia would be destroyed in two years is welcome. There is nothing else more powerful than drug mafia that is capable to stall the development of the country and destroy the youth of a nation. A single use of a chemical drug is capable to make that person an addict for the rest of his life.

There is no other field that is capable to generate this amount of money in a short period. Therefore, those people who are involved in drug business secretly are powerful individuals. It is very rare that these persons are brought to justice. Most of the those who are caught will be those at lower rungs of the chain. Those at the top will be always hidden and work in secret. They use terror activities to keep hidden. The investigation agencies have received many evidences for this.

The Union Home Minister said that the money gained from drug activities are used for terrorist activities. The minister was speaking at discussion at the Lok Sabha on the misuse of drugs in the country and the steps taken by the government to curb it. For this, a joint operation by the central and state agencies must be undertaken. The central government must give every support to the states. The center must make sure that there is no dearth of money and materials in order to take on this powerful mafia.

The investigation outside of India must be taken up by central agencies. The victory against drug mafia can be achieved only through the coordination of different departments and the cooperation of central and state governments.

The Minister’s statement that the most amount of drugs is coming from Gulf countries is a matter of concern for Keralites who are working in these countries. As these drugs are brought into the country through airports, borders, and ports these places must be brought under strict surveillance.

Current laws are not enough to curb the misuse of drugs, said NK Premchandran MP as he took part in the discussion. This must be taken seriously and the required changes must be brought. The MP’s suggestion that an action plan must be made to stop the trade and spread of drugs must be implemented soon.

This menace must be stopped at any cost and for that all political parties must stand together. Together with this, the victims of drugs must be brought back to normal life. For that more rehabilitation centers must be set up. The government is imposing huge taxes on alcohol and tobacco. A law must be formulated to use a fixed percentage of tax revenue for the rehabilitation of the victims.
