Parenting hack? Mom claims she raised her own 'backup' in her 20s

Parenting is no small feat, and the idea that only parents are responsible for a child's upbringing is far from the truth. During their formative years, children are shaped by everyone around them. Often, when there is a significant age gap between siblings, the older children step up, displaying a level of responsibility that rivals—or even exceeds—that of the parents. When the eldest child listens to and cares for the younger ones, it significantly eases the parents' burden.

A heartwarming video currently circulating on social media perfectly illustrates this dynamic. It features an 11-year-old boy diligently caring for his two-year-old brother.

In the video, the older brother is seen following his toddler sibling around to ensure he eats. He feeds him by spinning stories and acting them out to keep the little one engaged. Even when the toddler grows restless and runs away, there isn't a hint of resentment on the older boy's face. Instead, he follows with a bowl of food and a gentle smile. It is clear he doesn't just feed him; he truly looks after his brother's well-being, and the younger child, in turn, responds to his brother's guidance.

"Backup" generation

The video was shared with a witty and relatable caption:

"POV: Many said parenting after 30 is tough.

Me in my 30s: I already raised my backup in my 20s."

The post has garnered widespread praise for the older child, with many users taking to the comments to share similar experiences of "sibling-parenting" that helped their own families thrive.
