KOLLAM: These Capuchin brothers are not just seminarians, but are often seen as messengers of God. They perform energetic, cinematic dance at public events and earn up to Rs 25,000 per program. The money they receive is used to help poor people and patients who cannot afford medical treatment.

The brothers are studying for the priesthood at St. Antony’s Friary in Thilleri, Kollam, under the Province of St. Francis of Assisi. They first performed during the Thilleri church festival and at events in their monastery, presenting dance and drama. Their lively performances later went viral on social media, bringing them invitations to perform at outside venues. They perform in their religious attire and have also taken part in major stage shows.

They continue to receive regular invitations. Their rector, Father Sebastian Tobias, arranges their schedules so they can balance studies and performances. For charity events, they often perform without taking any payment.

Following path of St. Francis of Assisi
The Capuchin order was founded by St. Francis of Assisi, who was known for his joyful and simple way of life. The brothers say they follow his path. The order has 35 monasteries in and outside Kerala. Priesthood training lasts 13 years, with the final four years at the Thilleri monastery. There are currently 37 members there, and many of them are active in dance and drama. They manage their own training along with studies. Capuchin priests do not lead a private life. Income from farming, performances, and other activities is used for charity work.
