SYDNEY: One of Australia's best bowlers, Mitchell Starc, has retired from international Twenty20 cricket. The announcement comes just months before the 2026 Twenty20 World Cup. The player, who turns 36 in January, is said to have stepped down from T20s to focus more on Test and ODI formats. Starc now has the India tour, the Ashes and Australia's 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa ahead of him.
‘I am looking forward to India's overseas Test tour, the Ashes and the 2027 ODI World Cup. I feel this is the best way for me to stay fresh and fit during these seasons. I will also give the bowling group time to prepare for the T20 World Cup in the matches leading up to the tournament,’ Starc said in a statement.
Starc retires from T20I as Australia's leading T20I fast bowler with 79 wickets from 65 matches. Leg-spinner Adam Zampa is the highest wicket-taker for Australia with 130 wickets. Starc played a huge role in Australia's victory in the 2021 T20 World Cup. He last played a T20I against India last year.
