Biggest ever reward from BCCI; ICC announces Rs 27.48 crore cash prize for champions

MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced a reward of Rs 131 crore for the Indian team after their Twenty20 World Cup triumph. This is the biggest reward announced by the BCCI so far. The Indian team that won the Twenty20 World Cup in 2024 was given a reward of Rs 125 crore. The prize money was increased for retaining the title.

The BCCI had given a reward of Rs 51 crore to the Indian team that won the Women's ODI World Cup last year and Rs 7.5 crore to the men's team that won the Under-19 World Cup for the sixth time this year. The BCCI awards the players, coaches, support staff and selectors.

The World Cup winners, India, received a prize money of around Rs 27.48 crore from the International Cricket Council. The team also received a bonus of around Rs 28.6 lakh for each match won in the group stages and the Super 8 stages. The second-placed New Zealand received a prize money of Rs 14.65 crore. The ICC gave a total of Rs 120 crore as prize money to the teams in various stages of the tournament. The ICC has increased the prize money by 20 per cent compared to the previous edition.

Meanwhile, the ICC will only award medals and trophies to the Player of the Tournament and Player of the Match. No cash prizes will be given.
