PALLEKELE: England beat Pakistan by two wickets in Super Eights to ensure a semifinals berth, while Pakistan are likely on their way out of the World Cup.
Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat at Pallekele, scoring 164 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. In reply, England, although they lost wickets at the beginning and end, reached the target, thanks to a brilliant 100 from Harry Brook (100), whose innings included 10 fours and four sixes. Scare loomed after England started losing wickets at the end of the game, and if not for Archer’s four on the first ball of the last over, the game would have gone differently.
Opener Sahibzada Farhan was Pakistan's top scorer, amassing 63 runs off 45 balls, including seven fours and two sixes. Babar Azam (25), Fakhar Zaman (25) and Shadab Khan (23) also contributed.
Liam Dawson took three wickets for England. Jofra Archer and Jamie Overton each took two wickets. Adil Rashid took one wicket.
