THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Congress leadership has banned public statements after a cyber war between supporters over the Chief Minister post intensified. KPCC president Sunny Joseph warned that disciplinary action would be taken if the statements continue.
The AICC intervened after allies, including the Muslim League, expressed dissatisfaction regarding the discussions over the Chief Minister post. Leaders and party workers have been instructed not to make statements in newspapers, on television, or on social media regarding the selection of the Chief Minister, as it is damaging the party's image. The ongoing remarks have reportedly caused discontent among party members and supporters. Since discussions continued despite AICC’s earlier direction, the KPCC was forced to issue stricter instructions.
Amid the escalating cyber clashes, Hibi Eden offered to step down from his role in the KPCC digital media cell and submitted a letter to the party president. Recently, chats from a WhatsApp group surfaced, allegedly containing remarks insulting senior leaders. The group was reportedly managed by Vimala Binu, a coordinator of the digital media cell and a supporter of Opposition leader V. D. Satheesan. The chats allegedly included criticism of senior leaders, including K. Sudhakaran.
However, Vimala Binu has filed a complaint with the DGP, claiming that fake screenshots are being circulated in her name in connection with the Chief Minister row. Some screenshots also alleged that she called for cyber attacks against supporters of K. C. Venugopal.
Meanwhile, leaders have started behind-the-scenes efforts to secure the support of potential MLA candidates. According to party sources, if Congress comes to power, the leader who has the support of the majority of MLAs is likely to become Chief Minister. This is also believed to be the stand of the high command. In this context, leaders close to K. C. Venugopal, V. D. Satheesan, and Ramesh Chennithala have begun discussions with potential MLAs to secure their backing.
