AHMEDABAD: Chennai Super Kings put out a dominant display to crush mighty Gujarat Titans in the last match of the IPL season. Chennai defeated Gujarat by 83 runs. Chasing a target of 231, the Titans were bowled out for 147 in 18.3 overs. Despite already qualifying for the playoffs, Gujarat's chances of finishing the league stage in the top two are in the balance after losing their second consecutive match. Chennai finished their season at the bottom.
Chasing a target of 231 runs, the Titans lost captain Shubman Gill's 13 (9) wickets in the third over. Sai Sudarshan, who was in brilliant form, scored 41 (28) runs while Jos Buttler 5 (7) and Sherfane Rutherford 0 (4) disappointed. Shahrukh Khan 19 (15), Rahul Tewatia 14 (10), Rashid Khan (2 (8), Gerald Kotsia 5 (5), Arshad Khan (20) (14) and Sai Kishore (3) (7) couldn’t do much.
Mohammed Siraj remained unbeaten on three runs. For Chennai, Afghanistan's Chinaman spinner Noor Ahmed and Anshul Kamboj took three wickets each, while Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets and Khaleel Ahmed and Matheesha Pathirana took one wicket each.
The young players contributed to Chennai's mighty score in their last match of the season. Dewald Brevis was the top scorer with 57 runs in 23 balls. The South African batsman hit five sixes and four fours. Openers Devon Conway 52 (35), Ayush Mhatre 34 (17), and Urvil Patel 37 (19) also shone with the bat.
Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 21*(18) while Shivam Dubey scored 17(8). Prasidh Krishna took two wickets for Gujarat while Rashid Khan, Ravi Srinivasan, Sai Kishore and Shahrukh Khan took one wicket each.
