NEW DELHI: The Delhi family court has granted divorce to Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan on the grounds of mental torture by his wife. His wife,Ayesha Mukherjee did not contest the allegations made by Dhawan in the court against her.

The divorce was by mutual consent of both parties. Their marriage ended a long time ago and both have not lived as husband and wife since August 8, 2020. Ayesha did not allow Dhawan to live with his son for many years. Judge Harish Kumar blamed Ayesha for mentally hurting Dhawan in this way. Dhawan was allowed special time to see his son but the court refused to grant permanent custody to him. The court also ordered that the child be sent to India to spend half of the school holidays with Dhawan and his family.

Shikhar Dhawan and Ayesha got married in 2012. Their son Soravar was born in 2014. They have been living separately since September 2021. Ayesha had promised to live in India with Dhawan after marriage, but she returned to Australia to live with her daughters from her first marriage. Dhawan had also told the court that Ayesha had asked for money to take care of these children.
