AHMEDABAD: In the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup Super Eight match, South Africa avenged their final loss to India by defeating them by 76 runs. Batting first, South Africa set a target of 188 runs. India, in reply, were bowled out for 111 in 18.4 overs, unable to recover from an early collapse.
India’s innings began poorly with Ishan Kishan dismissed for 0 off 4 balls. Quick wickets fell with Tilak Varma (1) and Abhishek Sharma (15), leaving India reeling at 26 for three. Captain Suryakumar Yadav (18) and Washington Sundar (11) could not steady the innings, and India slumped to 51 for five in nine overs. Although Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube tried to build momentum, Keshav Maharaj’s three-wicket spell in the 16th over crushed India’s hopes. Shivam Dube scored 42 off 37 before getting out, and Jasprit Bumrah’s dismissal soon after sealed the match. Marco Jansen led the Proteas’ bowling attack with four wickets.
South Africa’s innings was powered by a strong partnership between David Miller and Dewald Brevis. Miller scored a quick 63 off 35 balls while Brevis contributed 45 off 29. Tristan Stubbs remained unbeaten on 44, helping South Africa reach 187 for seven in 20 overs.
For India, Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets, Arshdeep Singh two, and Varun Chakravarthy and Shivam Dube one each.
