Jaiswal misses out on double century after runout error, Gill in disbelief

NEW DELHI: It was heartbreak for Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was dismissed while on the verge of scoring a double ton against the West Indies in New Delhi. Jaiswal was dismissed at 175 runs in a runout following a communication error with captain Shubman Gill.

Jaiswal immediately left the crease after driving to extra cover on the second ball of Jayden Seals' over. But Gill, realising that it was not a run-scoring opportunity, sent Jaiswal back. Tagenarine Brandon Chanderpaul was quick enough to throw the ball to the keeper, who did the rest. Jaiswal expressed his disappointment to Gill while the latter was seen with his hands on his head in shock.

India, who won the toss and elected to bat at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, were 318/2 at the end of the first day. Sai Sudarshan (87) gave India a dominant start from the very beginning of the game. Jaiswal, who was at the crease from the first ball to the last ball yesterday, reached 173 off 253 balls, hitting 22 boundaries.

Except for taking one wicket each in the first and last sessions, the West Indies bowlers were completely exhausted. India came out on top yesterday with no changes to the team that had won the first Test by an innings. Rahul and Yashasvi added 58 runs in the opening innings.
