KKR beats SRH by 8 wickets in IPL 2024 final, clinches third title

ipl

CHENNAI: In a low scoring final, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Chepauk Stadium here to win their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title. Chasing a target of 114, KKR lost Sunil Narine in the second over but from there on SRH bowlers never looked threatening as the Kolkate side finished the game in just 10.3 with the loss of 2 wickets.

Before, Kolkata has won the IPL title in 2012 and 2014.

After winning the toss, SRH opted to bat first but things looked bleak for them right from the start. They had lost three wickets by 21 runs and never had a solid partnership throughout the innings. Andre Russel was the pick of the bowlers by scalping three SRH wickets. Aussie bowler Mitchell Starc took the crucial wickets of opener Abhishek Sharma in the first over and key batter Rahul Tripathi in the fifth over.

SRH lost wickets in quick successions as KKR bowlers fired on all cylinders. Apart from taking wickets, KKR's key bowlers Starc and Narine also restricted the flow of runs. SRH skipper Pat Cummins was the top scorer among their batters and helped them cross three-digit numbers.

Brief scores- Sunrisers Hyderabad: 113/10 in 18.3 overs (Pat Cummins 24, Aiden Markram 20; Andre Russell 3-19)

Kolkata Knight Riders: 114/2 in 10.3 overs (Venkatesh 52* in 26 balls, Rahmanullah Gurbaz 39; Pat Cummins 1-18)
