MUMBAI: The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) paid tribute to Indian cricket team ODI captain Rohit Sharma by naming a stand in Wankhede Stadium after him. The event held in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis witnessed a rollercoaster of emotions.
The Rohit Sharma Stand was inaugurated in the presence of several dignitaries including Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, former Union Minister and former International Cricket Council President Sharad Pawar, and officials from the Mumbai Cricket Association.
The entire Mumbai Indians team was at the Wankhede Stadium to witness the ceremony. Rohit Sharma and his wife Ritika failed to control their emotions when the cricketer’s proud parents reached the stage for the function.
Meanwhile, Grand Stand Level Three was renamed Sharad Pawar Stand and Grand Stand Level Four as Ajit Wadekar Stand as a tribute to the former BCCI and MCA president. A new office lounge was also inaugurated in memory of former MCA president Amol Kale.
"Cricket has been a dream since my childhood. Today I have been able to include my name along the list of greats of the game. The moment cannot be described in words.” said an emotional Rohit Sharma.
