LONDON: The centre court in London witnessed a one-sided final as Polish superstar Iga Swiatek trounced American Amanda Anisimova in straight sets without dropping a single game to clinch her maiden Wimbledon title.
Iga defeated Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 in 57 minutes. Amanda is the first player in the open era to not win a single game in a Wimbledon final. This is the first Wimbledon title in Iga's career. Iga is also the first Polish player to win the Wimbledon singles title. With this, Iga has six Grand Slam titles on her shelf.
Meanwhile, the defending champion Carlos Alcaraz of Spain and Italian Jannik Sinner will face off in the men's singles final. While Alcaraz is aiming for a hat-trick of titles at Wimbledon, world number one Sinner is aiming for a maiden title in London. Sinner is determined to avenge Alcaraz, who defeated him in the last French Open final. Alcaraz secured his place in the final by defeating US player Taylor Fritz in the semi-finals. Sinner entered the final by defeating Serbian sensation Novak Djokovic in straight sets.
