Los Angeles riots: Australian reporter shot with rubber bullet during live coverage

CALIFORNIA: An Australian journalist was injured by a rubber bullet while covering the Los Angeles riots. Australian 9News reporter Lauren Tomasi was injured in the incident. She suffered injuries on her legs.

The LAPD (Los Angeles Police Department) was behind her when she was covering the riots. A loud noise was heard and the next thing Lauren saw was blood oozing out from her legs.

In the background, a police official can be seen aiming at the reporter before the incident. Tomasi and the cameraman are currently safe.

The riots were sparked by a dispute over immigration issues. Tensions escalated in Los Angeles on Sunday as thousands of people protested, prompting the deployment of the military. Donald Trump deployed about 2,000 troops to contain the protesters, ignoring the objections of the California governor.

Trump ordered security forces to patrol the streets on horseback and immediately arrest masked protesters. Federal agents used flash-bang grenades and tear gas to disperse crowds protesting the arrest of dozens of immigrants in the predominantly Latino city.
