BRAZILIA: A small plane carrying passengers crashed into houses in a town, killing ten people. The incident occurred in the tourist city of Gramado in Brazil. The small plane lost control while flying and crashed into the chimney of a house. It then crashed into the second floor of a nearby building and into a mobile shop. All ten passengers on board died.
The accident occurred in an area where many live in a crowded place. More than 12 people were also injured. Some of them suffered from smoke inhalation, Brazil's Civil Defense Agency said in a statement. Two of them are in a critical condition.
The plane was piloted by local Brazilian businessman Luis Claudio Galeazzi at the time of the accident. He was traveling to Sao Paulo with his family. The 61-year-old man was confirmed to be on board the plane. His wife, three daughters, family members and a company employee were among the dead.
The small Piper plane took off from Canela Airport in Rio Grande do Sul and crashed just 10 kilometres (6 miles) away in Gramado, a cold-weather tourist destination nestled in the Serra Gaucha mountains that attracts many tourists during the Christmas season.
