WASHINGTON: It was a cinematic plot out on display as Donald Trump beat all odds to return to the Oval Office, resuscitating his political career after getting thrashed in the 2021 US elections. However, something is brewing within MAGA as hours after Trump assumed office, Indian-origin Republican Vivek Ramaswamy has reportedly resigned from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Vivek informed the news through X and handed over full charge of the department to Elon Musk.
“It was my honour to help support the creation of DOGE. I’m confident that Elon & team will succeed in streamlining government. I’ll have more to say very soon about my plans in Ohio. Most importantly, we’re all-in to help President Trump make America great again!” wrote Vivek.
Meanwhile, reports have emerged about Vivek's plan to run for the governor in Ohio. The race for Ohio governor will be held next year.
"Vivek intends to contest the elections. That's why he is leaving DOGE. Many thanks for his contributions in the last two months. "We hope he will play a critical role in making America great again," said Anna Kelly, spokeswoman for the DOGE Advisory Board.
Immediately after his election victory in November, Trump announced the creation of the Department of Government Efficiency. Musk and Vivek were assigned to head the department. However, there are also reports that Vivek was left dejected after Trump tacitly gave more authority to Musk to run the department while keeping Viveka as a second fiddle. The favouritism is also said to be the mainspring for the Indian-origin Vivek walking out from his first assignment under Trump.
