LONDON: Former President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, stated that Mahatma Gandhi saw in Sree Narayana Guru the spiritual strength that defines modern India in its truest sense. The historic meeting between Guru and Gandhi took place a hundred years ago. The wisdom and spiritual depth of Guru deeply influenced Gandhi, Kovind added.
He emphasised that in today’s divided and polarised world, the teachings of Sree Narayana Guru are more relevant than ever. Kovind was speaking at the virtual inauguration of Sree Narayana Harmony 2025, being held in the UK.
The event underscores the Guru’s vision of seeing divinity in every individual and rejecting all forms of discrimination. His message of “One Caste, One Religion, One God for Humanity” is a spiritual necessity, said the former President. Kovind also remarked that the Sivagiri Ashram in the UK, working under the leadership of the Sivagiri Mutt, acts as a bridge between the East and the West.
The event was presided over by Swami Sachidananda, President of the Sree Narayana Dharma Sangham Trust. Dr. Murugan Venkitachalam, Consul General of India, was the distinguished guest. Swami Shubhananda, General Secretary of the Trust, delivered the benedictory address.
Baiju Palakkal, President of Sivagiri Ashram UK and Chairman of Sevanam UK, delivered the welcome address, while Sajeesh Damodaran, Secretary of the Ashram, proposed the vote of thanks.
