LISBON: Many people go to tourist destinations for holidays to wear whatever they want and walk around as they please. However, a tourist area has announced that it will take punitive measures, including fines, if tourists arrive dressed as they please. The incident is not in Kerala or India. The incident is in Europe, where there are no restrictions on clothing.
Albufeira is a popular tourist destination in the southern Algarve region of Portugal. Known for its beautiful beaches and sea life, Albufeira attracts millions of visitors every year. It is common for tourists to walk around partially or completely naked in the city of Albufeira. According to the new directive, it is forbidden to walk around the streets wearing swimwear. Those who violate this will have to pay a hefty fine.
Although bikinis and shirtless beachwear are permitted, those found walking around in this manner outside the beach will be fined up to 1.36 lakh Indian rupees. Tourists caught completely naked could face fines of up to 1,800 euros. Mayor José Carlos Martins Rollo made the announcement during an emergency meeting with the local council, security forces and businesses.
Sexual activity in public places has also been banned, with strict fines for violators. The proposal document states that such an urgent change is necessary to protect Albufeira as a cultural, family-friendly and safe destination.
