ATTINGAL: Relatives have alleged that a 51-year-old woman died after she failed to receive treatment at a Primary Health Sub Centre. The deceased has been identified as Beena, a native of Charuvila in Kattumpuram.

The complaint has been raised against the Primary Health Sub Centre at Ramachamvila. Beena had gone there for treatment on the 20th. However, there has been no doctor’s service at the centre for the past one month. A notice saying “No OP due to absence of doctor” has been displayed at the gate. Staff at the centre reportedly asked her to go to the Attingal Valiyakunnu Taluk Hospital.

She then reached the Valiyakunnu hospital, where her blood pressure was checked and she was given medicines for three days. As her condition did not improve even after taking the medicines, she was later taken to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital.

By then, her blood pressure had increased and affected her brain. She died while undergoing treatment. Her relatives said that she could have been saved if she had received timely treatment.

The Primary Health Sub Centre at Ramachamvila functions under the Attingal Municipality. Protests are growing over the failure to restore doctor services at the centre.
