THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Much to the joy of expatriates, a new flight service to the Gulf sector will be in operation soon. Budget airline company IndiGo announced a new service directly from Kerala’s Kannur International Airport to Muscat, the capital of Oman. Three services per week are scheduled to commence from April 20th.

The new services will be on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. This is expected to bolster the connection between Kerala and the Gulf region. The launch of direct services to Oman is a boon for Kannur Airport. Further improvement in services to the Gulf sector will be an asset for the airport's development.

Services are currently operated from Kannur Airport to 11 airports across the Gulf. There are 17 weekly services to Abu Dhabi in the UAE and 12 weekly services to Sharjah. There are also 12 weekly flights to Doha, the capital of Qatar. In addition, there are daily flights to Dubai and Muscat from Kannur Airport.
